On Memorial Day weekend, the theater inside of the Detroit Institute of Arts will screen a restored version of Police Story, the action film from 1985 that made Jackie Chan a star.
The Detroit Film Theatre is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. DFT curator Elliott Wilhelm has been bringing films to the theater since 1974.
“Jackie Chan could take a punch like no one on this earth and keep going,” says Wilhelm. “You actually see an entire stunt play out, which was part of what [Chan] did. Jackie Chan’s stunts are his gift to the world.”
